Once you're in the Bahamas, shore excursions are extra and you will have to pay to take transportation from the terminal in Freeport to any attractions, as there is nothing within walking distance. Which is good, because only 10 rooms on the entire ship come with a balcony. Even junior suites only have portholes; you have to book a Grand Terrace Suite if you want outdoor real estate. Another area where the ship seems dated is in its utilities; the renovation did not add the number of American outlets and USB ports that always-wired travelers want these days. With 12 specialty and included dining options, sampling your way around the Margaritaville at Sea Islander is a delicious escape from the ordinary.

We noticed this particularly during the evening show, a jukebox musical of Buffett hits written by Jimmy himself. While some passengers enthusiastically sang along, fins up, other people smiled and tapped their toes, but clearly didn't know the words. Margaritaville at Sea Islander's only 4-night itinerary features an all-day venture at the tropical island oasis of Cozumel, plus two sun-soaked days at sea. Margaritaville at Sea Islander's inaugural voyage will take place on June 14, 2024. The sailing will consist of a four-night itinerary from Tampa featuring a stop in Cozumel and two sea days. The main venue for little cruisers will be the Caribbean Amphibian Splash and Slide pool. Located on the top deck, the area will feature an elevated play space, water slide and splash-and-spray zone designed like a lily pad. Getting from one end of the ship to another can also be confusing, particularly on the upper decks, where there is no real through access without taking various staircases. We also found odd areas of dead space, particularly the Hangout on Deck 14, which seemed like a sports bar with no bartenders or guests.
Where does Margaritaville at Sea Paradise sail to?
For those who love to dance, Margaritaville at Sea has added a brand new venue at the very top of the ship for adult guests. The newest adult-only venue is called the Hemisphere Nightclub and can be found on Deck 14. While the standard piano bar wasn't a new addition, the refurbishment of Margaritaville at Sea's Paradise brought the brand-new venue called "Keys On The Water Dueling Piano Bar," which can be found on Deck 9.

Just as when Margaritaville at Sea first made its debut, Paradise still sails its original 2-night itinerary from the Port of West Palm Beach to Grand Bahama Island and back. Margaritaville at Sea Islander's 1,105 cabins offer a range of four categories -- interior, oceanview, balcony and suite -- and 11 subcategories, including four types of balcony staterooms and three types of suites. Cabins range in size from 175 square feet for the insides to the 365-square-foot top-of-the-line Signature Grand Suite.

New dining venues are the Far Side of the World Asian fusion sushi bar and Mexican Cutie Cantina, where passengers can customize their own tacos and breakfast burritos. Island Eats is a seafood shack inside the adult-only Tiki Bar -- also a new concept -- overlooking the back of the ship. Also located in the Tiki Bar is the tropical-inspired Tiki Grill with dishes such as fire-grilled fillet skewers and pina colada creme brulee. Located on the upper floor of Fins Dining Room is the new Islander Dining Room serving chef-crafted seasonal specialties in addition to the main restaurant menu. And it wouldn't be a Margaritaville cruise ship without plenty of drinking options.
As with any low fares, there is always a caveat -- and while Margaritaville at Sea fare may seem inexpensive at first, there are some not-so-obvious costs. You'll have to pay port fees, for one thing, as well as fuel charges and gratuities. WiFi costs extra, and there's mandatory valet parking if you drive to the port.

One way you can tell that Margaritaville at Sea Paradise is not a new ship is by its deck plan and layout. Some of the areas of the ship, such as the Port of Indecision buffet, show their age by being more cramped than what you'd expect on newer vessels. It was so hard to get a seat here that people resorted to carrying food all over the ship, leaving dirty dishes in lounges far away from the restaurant. We were surprised to learn on our 2022 sailing that the Margaritaville at Sea appeal goes far beyond Parrotheads, as Jimmy Buffett's fans are called. Nearly 60% of the passengers on a typical Margaritaville at Sea sailing are taking their first cruise ever, we were told, and the vast majority of them have only a passing knowledge of Buffett.

Dueling pianos is such a fun and interactive form of live music entertainment. Currently, Margaritaville at Sea also conducts karaoke sessions with the ship’s activity team here. I can confidently say that the cruise was a good experience that improved upon my last. Here, qualified youth counselors entertain kids with activities like games, arts, and crafts, shows, tours, and more. During my two nights onboard, I was impressed to see the counselors leading groups of fun-having children around the ship many times. Passengers can catch two sailaway parties with music on both days of the 2-night voyage.

I highly recommend either planning out your day ahead of time or booking an excursion once onboard. Margaritaville at Sea’s Paradise ship docks in an area of the island that is not close to many attractions or beaches. For this reason, guests will need some form of transportation to best explore the island once they arrive. Powered by Echelon Fitness, the new fitness center features some of the most advanced fitness experiences, including a Reflect Touch Fitness Mirror for yoga. Those staying in suites will be able to enjoy connected mirrors from the comfort of their stateroom.
